The ABS event is now happily behind us…

All good things must come to an end.  June of 2011’s Atlantic Brotherhood Summit was a whirlwind of activity, which left us with many good memories, piles of photos and at least a hundred pairs of white gloves.  But what a wonderful time it was… The event was summarized nicely in the July/August 2011 issue (p8) of the Minnesota Mason, and in the Scottish Rite Journal.  We left this page up for those who wish to remember all we accomplished:

Welcome to America, Internet Lodge #9659 Brothers!

June of 2011 brings us the excitement of our Atlantic Brotherhood Summit here in the Twin Cities. Our brethren from the UK’s global Internet Lodge #9659 are bringing their annual ‘foreign’ excursion here to our shores, and we are their hosts. We’ve planned an exceptional series of events with them for the benefit of all Masons. You are invited to join us by registering for one or more of these events.

Please read the ABS Fact Sheet below for information on the event

Main Events
Thurs 6/2:- American BBQ: Join us at the home of Past Grand Master and British expat Andrew J. Rice. This is an event hosted by SWCL to kick off the week and welcome our British brethren to the United States. It is open to members of those two lodges and their guests. Complimentary, with lodge membership.  IMPORTANT:  If you are attending as a member, you must write to us to RSVP by clicking HERE.  PayPal cannot handle a no-cost transaction, so the BUY NOW button below is only for PAID guests, and will serve as their RSVP.

Fri 6/3 – Boat Cruise on the St. Croix by Paddleboat: This event will be held on one of the historic riverboats that still ply the waters of the St. Croix and Mississippi. The 2.5 hour cruise will include dinner. Cost $45US/pp  Prior to departure, guests will have time to explore the antique shops, bookstores, river walk, and pubs of historic Stillwater, Minnesota.

Sat 6/4 – British Emulation Master Mason Degree and Discussion at the Minneapolis Scottish Rite Temple: For the first time in Minnesota history, witness a performance of the Emulation Work by the officers of Internet Lodge #9659. The Scottish Rite Temple is the most beautiful Masonic building in the state, and well worth exploring by a guided tour. There is no charge for this event and the Q&A session immediately following, but guests are encouraged to purchase for $12US a pair of souvenir white gloves, specially created for this occasion. Funds will go to defray the costs of bringing this unique event to the Masons of Minnesota. White gloves, dues card, aprons (provided) and appropriate dress will be required.

Sat 6/4 – British Festive Board at the Minneapolis Club: Sir Winston Churchill Lodge will host a formal dinner in this superb setting, complete with the 7 toasts, delightful good cheer and their own unique tribute to Winston Churchill and the Sceptered Isle. Seating is limited to the first 110 guests, ladies welcome. Cost – $75US/pp

Optional Events:
Now being determined.  We have left plenty of time for our guests and interested Minnesota Masons to take part in several activities at your leisure. Each event will be accompanied by a Churchill Lodge member. Transportation will be made available.  Coordinators and contact information will be listed below, as they are assigned.

Mall of America & Scavenger Hunt (organized for the ladies as an alternative to the Festive Board) (6/4) $20/pp
Minnesota Third Degree and Dinner For those staying over the weekend, join Lake Harriet Lodge as they raise several candidates using Minnesota’s Third Degree.  4:30PM start, with a nice steak dinner. $10/pp

Travel and Accomodations

Our guests will arrive at various times a day or two prior to the event.  Our airport code is MSP.  Once here, holidaymakers are encouraged to use the light rail, conveniently linking the airport’s Humphery and Lindbergh terminals to downtown Minneapolis by a 30-minute trip, and dropping riders off only blocks from the Radisson Plaza Downtown Minneapolis when disembarking at the Nicollet Mall station and platform. Members of Internet Lodge may find more information about booking their flights and rooms on the Internet Lodge website.

Depending on the needs of our guests and how closely they coordinate travel, we may be able to provide greeters and other transportation.  Please write to WB Berger for information, or if you would like to volunteer to be a greeter.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Radisson Plaza Hotel Minneapolis. With a prime location in the heart of downtown Minneapolis, just steps away from the business district, local shopping and entertainment, the Radisson Plaza Hotel Minneapolis offers warm hospitality, an inviting atmosphere and stylish accommodations. One of the top Minneapolis hotels, the Radisson features wireless Internet, a Fitness Center, a Business Center and a whirlpool. For added convenience, our hotel is connected to the city’s climate-controlled skyway system. As Radisson’s flagship property, this four star, downtown Minneapolis hotel pampers guests with luxurious amenities and top-notch services.

At this writing, at least four of the Churchill Lodge brethren have agreed to open their homes to allow members of Internet Lodge to stay with them for the duration of the event.  Would you consider doing so, as well?  WB Berger is coordinating this effort.

Scheduled Time vs. Down Time:
All international travelers require some time to adjust to the time change and the rigors of travel.  Whilst we have scheduled several marquee events for Thursday evening the 26th, Friday evening the 27th and beginning at mid-day on Saturday the 27th, there will be considerable “time off” when guests may explore or rest.  There are hundreds of restaurants near the hotel, including two very nice pubs: one called Brit’s Pub and the other, an Irish-themed pub, simply “The Local.”  Churchill Lodge has suggested a half-dozen optional events for those who wish to participate, but these are by no means required.  One or more of the optional events may even be cancelled if participation is very minimal.  But we will do our best to accomodate our guests with local hosts and new friends to meet.

Several of the travelers will be staying on over the weekend, and will take in Lake Harriet’s Third Degree (Minnesota Work) on Monday, June 8th, 2011, at 5PM.  All are welcome to participate.  Lake Harriet Lodge will provide a delicious steak dinner between sections, and the cost will be $10.  An RSVP for this event, like the rest of the week’s festivities, is required.  Remember, hosts are providing enough chairs and food, and in some cases will be buying supplies ahead of time, to ensure your comfort.  Please let them know you are coming, by filling out the RSVP and reservation form.
