Prepare your glasses. There’s no meeting to mark the event, but a private toast at 9PM if you are inclined is appropriate nevertheless.
Today marks the anniversary of the death of our Patron. On this date, Jan. 24, 1965, Sir Winston Churchill died at the age of 90 in his London home at Hyde Park Gate. His beloved wife, Lady Clementine Churchill, was at his bedside. In his honor, the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies
has several papers extolling his wisdom; I first learned of the FDD when they were promoting the sale of these paintings and lithographs
. [Raises glass] …To our Patron, Sir Winston S. Churchill… Ahhh.
Note, someone may determine the time of death. However, Masons have a tradition called the “9 o’clock toast” during their festive boards, which is the time we pause to honor those men and women who have died. So, 9PM has a traditional basis.
